a name, a street, and 800 years of history – one family’s story

a name, a street, and 800 years of history – one family’s story

7:00 PM BST / 9:00 PM Minsk & Israel / 2:00 PM EST / 11:00 AM PST

Some questions follow families for generations – passed from grandparent to parent to child like an heirloom with no key. For Philip Maymin, that question had gone unanswered for as long as anyone could remember. Within months of coming to The Together Plan, Philip had his answer.

Join us for a special online event where Philip will share his extraordinary research journey – from a single name and a grandfather born in a Belarusian shtetl in 1913, to a family line traced back to the eighteenth century and a question finally, definitively answered.

We recently published the full story of Philip’s journey on our website – you can read it here

Alongside Philip, Vasily Zaitsau, Archive Services Project Manager at The Together Plan, will walk you through how the search was conducted – what our archivists do, what the Belarusian archives hold, and what it looks like when documents that have not been read in a century suddenly bring a family back to life.

what you will hear

• How one family’s questions – carried for generations – were finally answered through Belarusian archival research

• What our archivists actually find: census lists, tax rolls, trade licences, military records, and the texture of real lives

• What The Together Plan’s Archive Search Service can do – and what it might find for your family

this event is for you if

• Your family has roots in Belarus, or the broader region of the former Pale of Settlement

• You have always wanted to understand what archival research in Belarus actually involves

• You are simply curious what it feels like to find your family across centuries of silence
