Join us for a special screening of the JLTV documentary Memory Embrace: The Brest Jewish Cemetery, a powerful film telling the story of remembrance, recovery, and collective responsibility. Decades after the Nazis and Soviets destroyed the historic Brest Jewish Cemetery in Belarus, Jews and non-Jews from Belarus and around the world united to recover the cemetery’s scattered matzevot (tombstones) and transform them into an enduring memorial to Brest Jewry. The documentary follows this remarkable 12-year journey, stewarded by The Together Plan, in partnership with its US sister non-profit Jewish Tapestry Project, and explores the historical, cultural, and human significance of restoring dignity to a site of profound loss.
The screening will be introduced by Debra Brunner and Artur Livshyts of The Together Plan, executive producers of the film, who will also take part in a post-screening Q&A, offering insight into the memorial’s creation and its lasting impact.
Please note: Clocks in the UK change on the morning of 29 March. The programme start time is listed in British Summer Time (BST), which is one hour ahead of GMT.
All proceeds from the event will support The Together Plan’s work with vulnerable Jewish communities and the preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in Eastern Europe.
