where memory lives, identity grows
This month, The Together Plan’s October newsletter is filled with stories of remembrance, renewal, and reconnection. From our new campaign to install two memorials in Nesvizh honouring the lost Jewish community, to the first Rosh Hashanah celebrated by the newly registered Jewish community in Novogrudok, signs of Jewish revival in Belarus continue to grow. In Minsk, Sukkot was marked with a moving celebration and a remarkable art exhibition, while we also explore the rich tradition of pickling in Belarusian Jewish culture and how you can pickle like your ancestors. Finally, the Minsk Jewish Heritage Centre marks its second anniversary, commemorating the liquidation of the Minsk Ghetto and remembering those who perished, reminding us why our work of preserving memory and identity remains so vital.
All the best

remembering the Jews of Nesvizh - history, resilience, resistance and a new memorial
The Together Plan is now leading a campaign to install two memorials in Nesvizh to commemorate the contribution of the Jewish community to the town. One will be truly unique and will honour centuries of Jewish life, culture, and resilience, the other will stand at the site of the Jewish cemetery, now a public park, to ensure that the history of the cemetery, still a hallowed ground, is preserved and acknowledged.

Jewish life in Novogrudok - a new chapter begins
Novogrudok is becoming the focus of exciting and long-awaited developments, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. In September, the newly registered Novogrudok Jewish Religious Community celebrated its very first Rosh Hashanah, a milestone event marking the revival of Jewish communal life in this historic city.

a beacon of remembrance - Minsk Jewish Heritage Centre marks second anniversary
On October 26th, the Minsk Jewish Heritage Centre hosted a poignant gathering to mark its second anniversary, a celebration of community that also served as a powerful act of remembrance. An extraordinary spirit of survival is woven into the very fabric of the Centre’s mission in Belarus.

light in the shadows - reconnecting Jewish Identity in post-Soviet Belarus
At a time when antisemitism is resurging and Israel faces deep and unjust hostility, The Together Plan’s mission takes on renewed urgency. In Belarus, our work to help Jewish people reconnect with their heritage and preserve the memory of Jewish life and loss stands as a testament to resilience, identity, and hope.

preserving heritage, one pickle at a time
In Belarus, pickling vegetables isn’t just a culinary habit, it’s a way of life. For centuries, families have preserved cucumbers, cabbage, beets, carrots, and mushrooms to last through the long, harsh winters. For the Jewish communities of Belarus, this tradition took on an added layer of meaning.
